Thornchace trees protected

A Tree Preservation Order has been made by Guildford Borough Council to protect the trees at the former Thornchace School site in Grove Road, Merrow.

The Tree Preservation Order relates to two groups of trees and a woodland area, the first group consists of 11 Beech trees, whilst the second group consists of 4 Cedars and 1 Horse Chestnut tree. The woodland area contains mixed broadleaf and coniferous trees. It includes trees along the wall of Grove Road.

The Borough Council’s tree expert has visited the site following consultation with the Surrey County Arboriculturalist, after requests from local councillor, Sheridan Westlake and from residents. A number of the trees on the site are of high quality  that are visible and contribute to the quality of the public domain of Grove Road and Guildford Golf Course to the rear of the site.

Surrey County Council is still in the process of considering a potential sale of the former school site.
