Guildford Borough Council has won its High Court challenge against the former Labour Government’s plans made last year that would have required the Council to carry out a Green Belt 'review' to the north east of Guildford - including the Merrow-Burpham Green Belt.
Anne Milton, MP for Guildford, said: “After years of opposition and campaigning over the South East Plan I am delighted that the previous Government’s ill-thought out housing strategy and plans to build on the Green Belt have been binned. My thanks go out to the thousands of people in Guildford who fought the South East Plan and well done to Guildford Borough Council for taking a stand on behalf of local people.”
“We need new houses but we also need decisions on housing to be taken locally so we can provide affordable and sustainable homes for the future.”
